Aggie, the Mail-Order Bride
or
A Damsel in di' West!
Freely adapted by G. B. Roe from Moliere's The School for Wives
Arnie, an older, wealthy rancher in Virginia City has put off getting hitched.
He wants a filly who is totally innocent about the ways of the world.
Someone who is inexperienced, green and immature-someone, in fact, " jist like him."
Accidentally, he becomes responsible for the care of a young girl and has her educated in a convent - objective: keep her naive.
But when he sends to San Francisco for his mail-order bride, Aggie's innocence becomes his undoing.
With this new twist of the old script, Moliere will roll over in his grave - with laughter. |

Sweeney Todd
The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
" Many a Poor young orphan lad,
The first square meal he ever 'ad
Was a 'ot meat pie made out o' 'is dad
From Sweeney Todd, the Barber."
--old music hall ditty
Sweeney Todd, the Original 19th century melodrama by George Dibdin Pitt, bears little resemblance to the Broadway musical or recent movie.
For one hundred and fifty years, Sweeney Todd has frightened audiences with his barber chair that dumped customers in the cellar,
where they were butchered and baked by his girl friend, Mrs. Lovett, into meat pies.
The tale of Sweeney can be put in the same category as Mr. Hyde or Jack the Ripper. |
